Chanderi silk-cotton is light, airy and gently lustrous, so the saree drapes softly and stays comfortable through long festive days. The ivory base keeps the look elegant, while the red embroidery and aqua border add a cheerful festive touch. Made for women who love understated colour with handcrafted detail.

About the Gulbahar collection

Gulbahar, meaning "spring of flowers", is Silk Ethnics' collection of hand embroidered Chanderi silk-cotton sarees. Each motif is embroidered by hand on a soft ivory Chanderi base, so the saree carries the charm of handwork while staying light and easy to drape.

Where to wear this Chanderi saree

Wear it for Diwali and Durga Puja, temple visits, pooja at home, family celebrations and daytime wedding functions like haldi and mehendi. Its soft ivory, aqua and red palette also makes it a thoughtful festive gift for a mother, sister or friend.

How to style it

Festive and traditional: pair it with a red or maroon blouse, gold-toned temple jhumkas, a few bangles and a gajra.
Soft and elegant: choose an aqua blue blouse with layered pearls and pearl studs for a graceful pooja or family-gathering look.
Boho: wear an ivory or rust blouse with oxidised silver earrings, a macramé potli bag and kolhapuris for a relaxed festive day out.

Each piece is a work of art which uniquely displays the craftsperson's skill. The beauty of handcrafted fabric is that no two pieces look exactly alike, and minute flaws are very common. The imperfections can be anything from an uneven yarn to a slight variation in the embroidery. The beauty of an original handcrafted saree lies in its imperfections.

Pls note that there may be a mild colour variation in the saree due to colour reproduction in camera and screen.

Frequently asked questions

What is unique about Silk Ethnics' Gulbahar collection? Gulbahar pairs the airy Chanderi silk-cotton weave with hand embroidery, so each saree is both light and richly detailed. Because every motif is embroidered by hand, each piece has its own small variations and no two are identical. It is festive without heavy zari, which makes it easy to wear from a morning pooja to an evening celebration.

What is this saree made of? This Aqua Blue and Red Gulbahar saree is made of Chanderi silk-cotton, with an ivory body, red hand embroidery and an aqua blue border. The blouse is attached, and the total length is 6.3 to 6.5m (5.5m saree and 80cm blouse).

Is Chanderi silk-cotton the same as pure silk? No. Chanderi silk-cotton is a blend of silk and cotton. The silk gives it a soft sheen, and the cotton keeps it light and breathable, which is why Chanderi is loved for festive wear in warm weather.

Is this saree good for temple visits and pooja at home? Yes. The ivory base with red embroidery has a traditional, auspicious feel that suits temple visits, pooja at home, Diwali and Durga Puja.

Can I wear this Chanderi saree to a wedding? It works beautifully for daytime wedding functions such as haldi, mehendi and pooja ceremonies, and for wedding guests who prefer an elegant, light saree over a heavy silk.

Is it a good saree to gift? Yes. Ivory, aqua and red is an easy palette to love, and the hand embroidery makes it a meaningful festive gift for a mother, sister, friend or teacher.

How can I style an ivory, aqua blue and red saree? For a festive look, wear a red or maroon blouse with gold-toned temple jhumkas. For a soft, elegant look, choose an aqua blouse with layered pearls. For a boho look, try an ivory or rust blouse with oxidised silver jewellery and a macramé potli.

Is Chanderi silk-cotton comfortable to wear all day? Yes. It is light, airy and breathable, so it stays comfortable through long festive days, family gatherings and celebrations.

Is the blouse piece included? Yes, an 80cm blouse piece is attached to the saree.

How do I care for this hand embroidered saree? Dry clean only, including the first wash. Iron on low heat on the reverse side, avoiding direct heat on the embroidery. Keep perfume and deodorant away from the fabric, and store it folded in a muslin or cotton cloth so the embroidery doesn't snag.

Care Instructions

Handloom sarees last decades when cared for gently. Few simple care tips for different fabrics.
Pure Linen / Linen Cotton
  • Dry clean the first time; mild hand wash in cold water after that
  • Never wring — press water out and hang over a rod
  • Dry in shade, never direct sun
  • Iron while slightly damp; linen takes a hot iron well
  • Linen creases as you wear it. That's the fabric, not a fault
Cotton / Mulcotton
  • Before the first wash, soak 15 minutes in cold water with a handful of rock salt. This sets the colour
  • Mild detergent only, cold water, no bleach, no machine
  • Don't let soap sit on the fabric — rinse quickly
  • Shade dry; light starch keeps the crispness
  • Medium iron
Silk / Silk Cotton
  • Dry clean only, always
  • Blot stains immediately with a dry cloth. Never rub, never use water
  • Store wrapped in muslin, never plastic — plastic blackens zari
  • Refold along different lines every few months so creases don't set
  • Iron on low, reverse side, with a cotton cloth in between
Tissue / Organza
  • Dry clean only
  • The zari is delicate — avoid hooks, velcro and rough jewellery
  • Store rolled or loosely folded in muslin
  • Iron on the lowest setting with a cloth between, never directly on zari
Hand Block Prints — Ajrakh, Kalamkari, Bagru & Dabu
  • Natural dyes release colour in the first two or three washes. Wash separately in cold water
  • Mild detergent, no soaking, no bleach
  • Shade dry, reverse side out
  • The colours soften and deepen over years. That's how natural dye is meant to age
Hand Embroidered / Hand Painted
  • Dry clean only
  • Iron on the reverse, never over the embroidery or painted areas
  • Store flat in muslin so threads don't catch
