The monochrome ivory and black palette feels modern and sophisticated, while the light Chanderi silk-cotton keeps it airy and easy to carry for hours. Made for women who love a classic black-and-white look with the charm of handwork.
About the Gulbahar collection
Gulbahar means "spring of flowers". It is Silk Ethnics' collection of hand embroidered Chanderi silk-cotton sarees, with every motif hand embroidered on a light ivory Chanderi base. The richness comes from the handwork rather than heavy zari, so each saree feels special yet stays light to wear.
Where to wear this ivory and black saree
Wear it to Diwali parties, festive evenings, sangeet and cocktail functions, family celebrations and dinners. Its elegant monochrome look also works for formal occasions such as office festive events, award functions, conferences and school or college events where you want to look graceful and polished. It makes a stylish gift for a sister, friend or anyone who loves black and white.
How to style it
Festive and dramatic: pair it with a black blouse, silver or oxidised statement jhumkas, a bold red lip and a small bindi for a striking evening look.
Classic and elegant: choose an ivory or white blouse with layered pearls and pearl studs for a soft, refined monochrome look.
Boho: wear it with a black sleeveless blouse, oxidised silver chokers and bangles, a macramé potli bag and kolhapuris for a relaxed, artsy vibe.
Each piece is a work of art which uniquely displays the craftsperson's skill. The beauty of handcrafted fabric is that no two pieces look exactly alike, and minute flaws are very common. The imperfections can be anything from an uneven yarn to a slight variation in the embroidery. The beauty of an original handcrafted saree lies in its imperfections.
Pls note that there may be a mild colour variation in the saree due to colour reproduction in camera and screen.
Frequently asked questions
What is special about the Gulbahar collection? Each Gulbahar saree brings together the light, gently lustrous Chanderi silk-cotton weave and detailed hand embroidery. Because the motifs are hand embroidered, every piece has its own character and no two are exactly identical. It gives you the richness of handwork without the weight of heavy zari.
What is this saree made of? This Ivory and Black Gulbahar saree is made of Chanderi silk-cotton, with black hand embroidery across the body, an embroidered border, and a pallu featuring a diamond-shaped motif cluster. The blouse is attached, and the total length is 6.3 to 6.5m (5.5m saree and 80cm blouse).
Is Chanderi silk-cotton the same as pure silk? No. Chanderi silk-cotton is a blend of silk and cotton. The silk gives a subtle sheen and the cotton keeps it light and breathable for long hours.
Can I wear a black and ivory saree for Diwali and festive parties? Yes. Ivory and black is a chic choice for Diwali parties, festive evenings, sangeet and cocktail functions, and stands out beautifully against festive lights and décor.
Is this saree suitable for formal or work events? Yes. The monochrome palette looks polished and graceful for office festive celebrations, award functions, conferences, client dinners and school or college events, including for teachers.
How can I style an ivory and black saree? For a dramatic look, wear a black blouse with oxidised statement jhumkas and a red lip. For a classic look, choose an ivory blouse with layered pearls. For a boho look, pair a black sleeveless blouse with oxidised silver jewellery and a macramé potli.
Is it a good saree to gift? Yes. Black and white never goes out of style, and the hand embroidery makes it a thoughtful gift for a sister, friend or colleague who loves elegant, understated sarees.
Is it comfortable to wear for long hours? Yes. Chanderi silk-cotton is light and breathable, so the saree stays comfortable through long evenings, events and celebrations.
Is the blouse piece included? Yes, an 80cm blouse piece is attached to the saree.
How do I care for this hand embroidered saree? Dry clean only, including the first wash. Iron on low heat on the reverse side, avoiding direct heat on the embroidery. Keep perfume and deodorant away from the fabric, and store it folded in a muslin or cotton cloth so the embroidery doesn't snag.

Care Instructions
Care Instructions
- Dry clean the first time; mild hand wash in cold water after that
- Never wring — press water out and hang over a rod
- Dry in shade, never direct sun
- Iron while slightly damp; linen takes a hot iron well
- Linen creases as you wear it. That's the fabric, not a fault
- Before the first wash, soak 15 minutes in cold water with a handful of rock salt. This sets the colour
- Mild detergent only, cold water, no bleach, no machine
- Don't let soap sit on the fabric — rinse quickly
- Shade dry; light starch keeps the crispness
- Medium iron
- Dry clean only, always
- Blot stains immediately with a dry cloth. Never rub, never use water
- Store wrapped in muslin, never plastic — plastic blackens zari
- Refold along different lines every few months so creases don't set
- Iron on low, reverse side, with a cotton cloth in between
- Dry clean only
- The zari is delicate — avoid hooks, velcro and rough jewellery
- Store rolled or loosely folded in muslin
- Iron on the lowest setting with a cloth between, never directly on zari
- Natural dyes release colour in the first two or three washes. Wash separately in cold water
- Mild detergent, no soaking, no bleach
- Shade dry, reverse side out
- The colours soften and deepen over years. That's how natural dye is meant to age
- Dry clean only
- Iron on the reverse, never over the embroidery or painted areas
- Store flat in muslin so threads don't catch
