Rich, warm and festive, this Ivory and Red Gulbahar saree is a hand embroidered Chanderi silk-cotton saree with a soft ivory body covered in red hand-embroidered motifs, framed by a densely embroidered border and pallu. The classic ivory and red pairing feels auspicious and celebratory, while the light Chanderi silk-cotton keeps it airy and easy to drape through a long festive day. Made for women who love traditional colours with the charm of handwork.

About the Gulbahar collection

Gulbahar, which means "spring of flowers", is Silk Ethnics' collection of hand embroidered Chanderi silk-cotton sarees. Every motif is hand embroidered on a light ivory Chanderi base, so each saree feels special and festive without the weight of heavy zari.

Where to wear this ivory and red saree

Ivory and red is a timeless festive pairing, perfect for Diwali, Durga Puja and Karva Chauth, temple visits, pooja at home, griha pravesh and family celebrations. It also suits wedding functions like haldi, mehendi and engagement ceremonies, and makes a beautiful festive gift for a mother, sister or daughter-in-law.

How to style it

Festive and traditional: pair it with a red or maroon blouse, gold-toned temple jewellery, red and gold bangles and a gajra for a classic Diwali look.
Soft and elegant: choose an ivory or gold blouse with layered pearls and pearl drops for a graceful pooja or evening look.
Boho: wear a black blouse with oxidised silver jhumkas, a macramé potli bag and kolhapuris for a relaxed festive day out.

Each piece is a work of art which uniquely displays the craftsperson's skill. The beauty of handcrafted fabric is that no two pieces look exactly alike, and minute flaws are very common. The imperfections can be anything from an uneven yarn to a slight variation in the embroidery. The beauty of an original handcrafted saree lies in its imperfections.

Pls note that there may be a mild colour variation in the saree due to colour reproduction in camera and screen.

Frequently asked questions

What sets the Gulbahar collection apart? Gulbahar combines the light, softly lustrous Chanderi silk-cotton weave with rich hand embroidery. Since every motif is hand embroidered, each Gulbahar saree carries its own small variations and no two are exactly the same. The festive richness comes from the handwork rather than heavy zari, so the saree stays light enough to wear from morning pooja to evening celebrations.

What is this saree made of? This Ivory and Red Gulbahar saree is made of Chanderi silk-cotton, with red hand embroidery across the body and an embroidered border and pallu. The blouse is attached, and the total length is 6.3 to 6.5m (5.5m saree and 80cm blouse).

Is Chanderi silk-cotton the same as pure silk? No. Chanderi silk-cotton is a blend of silk and cotton. The silk lends a gentle sheen and the cotton keeps it airy and breathable, so it is comfortable even in warm weather.

Is an ivory and red saree good for Diwali, Durga Puja and pooja at home? Yes. Ivory and red is one of the most auspicious festive combinations, which makes this saree ideal for Diwali, Durga Puja, Karva Chauth, temple visits and pooja at home.

Can I wear this hand embroidered Chanderi saree to a wedding? Yes. It is lovely for haldi, mehendi, engagement and pooja ceremonies, and for wedding guests who want a festive saree that is lighter than heavy silk.

Is it a good saree to gift? Yes. The auspicious ivory and red palette and detailed hand embroidery make it a meaningful gift for a mother, sister, daughter-in-law or a dear friend.

How can I style an ivory and red saree? For a festive look, wear a red or maroon blouse with gold-toned temple jewellery. For an elegant look, try an ivory or gold blouse with layered pearls. For a boho look, pair it with a black blouse, oxidised silver jhumkas and a macramé potli.

Is it comfortable to wear for long festive days? Yes. Chanderi silk-cotton is light and breathable, so the saree stays comfortable through long pujas, family gatherings and celebrations.

Is the blouse piece included? Yes, an 80cm blouse piece is attached to the saree.

How do I care for this hand embroidered saree? Dry clean only, including the first wash. Iron on low heat on the reverse side, avoiding direct heat on the embroidery. Keep perfume and deodorant away from the fabric, and store it folded in a muslin or cotton cloth so the embroidery doesn't snag.

Care Instructions

Handloom sarees last decades when cared for gently. Few simple care tips for different fabrics.
Pure Linen / Linen Cotton
  • Dry clean the first time; mild hand wash in cold water after that
  • Never wring — press water out and hang over a rod
  • Dry in shade, never direct sun
  • Iron while slightly damp; linen takes a hot iron well
  • Linen creases as you wear it. That's the fabric, not a fault
Cotton / Mulcotton
  • Before the first wash, soak 15 minutes in cold water with a handful of rock salt. This sets the colour
  • Mild detergent only, cold water, no bleach, no machine
  • Don't let soap sit on the fabric — rinse quickly
  • Shade dry; light starch keeps the crispness
  • Medium iron
Silk / Silk Cotton
  • Dry clean only, always
  • Blot stains immediately with a dry cloth. Never rub, never use water
  • Store wrapped in muslin, never plastic — plastic blackens zari
  • Refold along different lines every few months so creases don't set
  • Iron on low, reverse side, with a cotton cloth in between
Tissue / Organza
  • Dry clean only
  • The zari is delicate — avoid hooks, velcro and rough jewellery
  • Store rolled or loosely folded in muslin
  • Iron on the lowest setting with a cloth between, never directly on zari
Hand Block Prints — Ajrakh, Kalamkari, Bagru & Dabu
  • Natural dyes release colour in the first two or three washes. Wash separately in cold water
  • Mild detergent, no soaking, no bleach
  • Shade dry, reverse side out
  • The colours soften and deepen over years. That's how natural dye is meant to age
Hand Embroidered / Hand Painted
  • Dry clean only
  • Iron on the reverse, never over the embroidery or painted areas
  • Store flat in muslin so threads don't catch
