Geometric phulkari-style diamonds and floral motifs in red, teal blue and pink are worked across the soft ivory body and border, outlined with fine kantha running stitches. The pallu is finished with pom-pom tassels (latkans) for a playful festive touch. Light and airy, it is made for women who love vibrant colour and handcrafted detail.

About the Gulbahar collection

Gulbahar, which means "spring of flowers", is Silk Ethnics' collection of hand embroidered Chanderi silk-cotton sarees. Every motif is hand embroidered on a light ivory Chanderi base, so each saree feels rich and festive without the weight of heavy zari.

Kantha and phulkari, together on one saree

Kantha is Bengal's traditional running-stitch embroidery, used for fine outlines and borders. Phulkari, meaning "flower work", is Punjab's traditional embroidery known for its floral and geometric motifs. Here the two crafts meet in red, teal and pink on an ivory Chanderi base.

Where to wear this ivory, red and teal saree

Wear it for Diwali, Karva Chauth, Lohri, Baisakhi, Navratri and Durga Puja, temple visits, pooja at home, mehendi and haldi functions, and family celebrations. Its festive red and teal palette also makes it a joyful gift for a mother, sister or friend.

How to style it

Festive and traditional: pair it with a red blouse, gold-toned jhumkas, red and gold bangles and a gajra.
Soft and elegant: choose a teal blouse with layered pearls and pearl drops for a graceful pooja or day-function look.
Boho: wear an ivory or mustard sleeveless blouse with oxidised silver jewellery, a macramé potli bag and kolhapuris to bring out the folk vibe of the tassels.

Each piece is a work of art which uniquely displays the craftsperson's skill. The beauty of handcrafted fabric is that no two pieces look exactly alike, and minute flaws are very common. The imperfections can be anything from an uneven yarn to a slight variation in the embroidery. The beauty of an original handcrafted saree lies in its imperfections.

Pls note that there may be a mild colour variation in the saree due to colour reproduction in camera and screen.

Frequently asked questions

What makes the Gulbahar collection special? Gulbahar sarees pair the light, softly lustrous Chanderi silk-cotton weave with detailed hand embroidery. This piece brings together kantha and phulkari in red, teal and pink, finished with a tasselled pallu. Since every motif is hand embroidered, no two Gulbahar sarees are exactly alike.

What is this saree made of? This Ivory, Red and Teal Gulbahar saree is made of Chanderi silk-cotton, with hand embroidered kantha and phulkari work in red, teal blue and pink, and pom-pom tassels on the pallu. The blouse is attached, and the total length is 6.3 to 6.5m (5.5m saree and 80cm blouse).

How are kantha and phulkari different? Kantha uses fine running stitches for outlines and borders and comes from Bengal. Phulkari is a Punjabi embroidery known for floral and geometric motifs. On this saree, both are used together.

Is Chanderi silk-cotton the same as pure silk? No. Chanderi silk-cotton is a blend of silk and cotton. The silk gives a gentle sheen and the cotton keeps it airy and breathable.

Is this saree good for Karva Chauth, Diwali and pooja at home? Yes. Red on ivory is a festive, auspicious combination, so it is a lovely choice for Karva Chauth, Diwali, Lohri, temple visits and pooja at home.

How can I style an ivory, red and teal saree? For a festive look, wear a red blouse with gold-toned jhumkas. For an elegant look, try a teal blouse with layered pearls. For a boho look, pair a mustard blouse with oxidised silver jewellery and a macramé potli.

Is it a good saree to gift? Yes. The cheerful colours, folk embroidery and tasselled pallu make it a memorable festive gift for a mother, sister or friend.

Is it comfortable to wear all day? Yes. Chanderi silk-cotton is light and breathable, so the saree stays comfortable through long festive days and functions.

Is the blouse piece included? Yes, an 80cm blouse piece is attached to the saree.

How do I care for this hand embroidered saree? Dry clean only, including the first wash. Iron on low heat on the reverse side, avoiding direct heat on the embroidery. Keep the tassels untangled, keep perfume and deodorant away from the fabric, and store it folded in a muslin or cotton cloth so the embroidery doesn't snag.

Care Instructions

Handloom sarees last decades when cared for gently. Few simple care tips for different fabrics.
Pure Linen / Linen Cotton
  • Dry clean the first time; mild hand wash in cold water after that
  • Never wring — press water out and hang over a rod
  • Dry in shade, never direct sun
  • Iron while slightly damp; linen takes a hot iron well
  • Linen creases as you wear it. That's the fabric, not a fault
Cotton / Mulcotton
  • Before the first wash, soak 15 minutes in cold water with a handful of rock salt. This sets the colour
  • Mild detergent only, cold water, no bleach, no machine
  • Don't let soap sit on the fabric — rinse quickly
  • Shade dry; light starch keeps the crispness
  • Medium iron
Silk / Silk Cotton
  • Dry clean only, always
  • Blot stains immediately with a dry cloth. Never rub, never use water
  • Store wrapped in muslin, never plastic — plastic blackens zari
  • Refold along different lines every few months so creases don't set
  • Iron on low, reverse side, with a cotton cloth in between
Tissue / Organza
  • Dry clean only
  • The zari is delicate — avoid hooks, velcro and rough jewellery
  • Store rolled or loosely folded in muslin
  • Iron on the lowest setting with a cloth between, never directly on zari
Hand Block Prints — Ajrakh, Kalamkari, Bagru & Dabu
  • Natural dyes release colour in the first two or three washes. Wash separately in cold water
  • Mild detergent, no soaking, no bleach
  • Shade dry, reverse side out
  • The colours soften and deepen over years. That's how natural dye is meant to age
Hand Embroidered / Hand Painted
  • Dry clean only
  • Iron on the reverse, never over the embroidery or painted areas
  • Store flat in muslin so threads don't catch
