Rich, calm and beautifully balanced, this Jade Green Ikkat Dhaniakhali handloom saree has a deep jade green body dotted with small woven buttis, framed by a striking royal blue border woven with traditional Ikkat motifs. The pallu carries fine green and golden-yellow stripes that add a soft glow to the look. The green-and-blue pairing feels elegant and a little unexpected, perfect for women who like to stand out without being loud. Hand-woven in pure 100-count cotton by skilled Bengal artisans, it is light, breathable and comfortable through long days, from office and meetings to pujas and family gatherings.

Dhaniakhali sarees originated from Dhaniakhali in West Bengal's Hooghly district. These weaves are a celebrated GI tagged handloom tradition. Handwoven in cotton by skilled Bengal weavers, these sarees have a distinctive weave, carefully crafted Ikkat designs, beautiful motifs, characteristic quarter - inch borders. Each saree carries a specialised twisted weave on the pallu called Khajurichoti resembling a braided plait and which is the mark of authenticity for Dhaniakhali weaves. The yarn used is organically treated to provide comfort in humid Indian weather.

Handloom fabric is woven on a loom manually by a skilled weaver. Each handloom piece is a work of art which uniquely displays craftsmanship. The beauty of this quintessential fabric is that no two hand-loomed fabrics can be similar-looking. And pls note that getting minute flaws in fabric is very common. The imperfections in this perfect fabric can be anything from an uneven yarn to a faded print. The beauty of an original handloom saree lies in its imperfections.

Pls note that there may be a mild colour variation in the saree due to colour reproduction in camera and screen.

Frequently asked questions

What is this saree made of? It is a pure 100-count handloom cotton Dhaniakhali saree in jade green with small woven buttis, a royal blue Ikkat border and a pallu with fine green and golden-yellow stripes. It is 5.5m long and comes without a blouse piece.

Where can I wear it? It goes from office days and meetings to Durga Puja, Poila Baisakh, Saraswati Puja, temple visits and family gatherings.

How can I style a jade green and blue cotton saree? Pair it with a royal blue blouse to pick up the border, or a mustard or white one. Pearl studs keep it office-ready, antique gold suits festive days, and oxidised silver jewellery with a macramé potli gives it a boho look.

Is a Dhaniakhali cotton saree good for hot weather? Yes. Pure 100-count cotton is light, breathable and absorbs sweat, so it stays comfortable through long workdays and humid summers, and it holds pleats well.

Can I wear it to work? Yes. The green and blue pairing looks elegant and a little unexpected, without being loud. It suits everyday office wear, important client meetings, presentations, conferences and school or college events for teachers. It's a practical, polished choice for teachers, doctors, lawyers, bankers and other professionals who want to look elegant all day without fuss.

What is a Dhaniakhali saree? Dhaniakhali (also spelt Dhonekhali or Dhaniyakhali) is a GI-tagged handloom cotton saree from Dhaniakhali in West Bengal's Hooghly district, known for its fine cotton weave and neat quarter-inch borders.

How can I identify an original Dhaniakhali handloom saree? Look for the Khajurichoti, a twisted, braid-like weave on the pallu that marks an authentic Dhaniakhali weave, along with small weave irregularities that show it is handwoven, not powerloom.

What is Ikkat weaving? Ikkat is a technique where the yarns are tied and dyed in a planned pattern before weaving, which gives the motifs their soft, feathered edges.

How do I care for it? Dry clean it for the first wash. After that, hand wash gently in cold water with a mild detergent, avoid wringing, and dry it in shade. Iron or steam press on the reverse side, and store it folded in a cotton cloth.

Care Instructions

Handloom sarees last decades when cared for gently. Few simple care tips for different fabrics.
Pure Linen / Linen Cotton
  • Dry clean the first time; mild hand wash in cold water after that
  • Never wring — press water out and hang over a rod
  • Dry in shade, never direct sun
  • Iron while slightly damp; linen takes a hot iron well
  • Linen creases as you wear it. That's the fabric, not a fault
Cotton / Mulcotton
  • Before the first wash, soak 15 minutes in cold water with a handful of rock salt. This sets the colour
  • Mild detergent only, cold water, no bleach, no machine
  • Don't let soap sit on the fabric — rinse quickly
  • Shade dry; light starch keeps the crispness
  • Medium iron
Silk / Silk Cotton
  • Dry clean only, always
  • Blot stains immediately with a dry cloth. Never rub, never use water
  • Store wrapped in muslin, never plastic — plastic blackens zari
  • Refold along different lines every few months so creases don't set
  • Iron on low, reverse side, with a cotton cloth in between
Tissue / Organza
  • Dry clean only
  • The zari is delicate — avoid hooks, velcro and rough jewellery
  • Store rolled or loosely folded in muslin
  • Iron on the lowest setting with a cloth between, never directly on zari
Hand Block Prints — Ajrakh, Kalamkari, Bagru & Dabu
  • Natural dyes release colour in the first two or three washes. Wash separately in cold water
  • Mild detergent, no soaking, no bleach
  • Shade dry, reverse side out
  • The colours soften and deepen over years. That's how natural dye is meant to age
Hand Embroidered / Hand Painted
  • Dry clean only
  • Iron on the reverse, never over the embroidery or painted areas
  • Store flat in muslin so threads don't catch
