Care Instructions

Handloom sarees last decades when cared for gently. Few simple care tips for different fabrics.
Pure Linen / Linen Cotton
  • Dry clean the first time; mild hand wash in cold water after that
  • Never wring — press water out and hang over a rod
  • Dry in shade, never direct sun
  • Iron while slightly damp; linen takes a hot iron well
  • Linen creases as you wear it. That's the fabric, not a fault
Cotton / Mulcotton
  • Before the first wash, soak 15 minutes in cold water with a handful of rock salt. This sets the colour
  • Mild detergent only, cold water, no bleach, no machine
  • Don't let soap sit on the fabric — rinse quickly
  • Shade dry; light starch keeps the crispness
  • Medium iron
Silk / Silk Cotton
  • Dry clean only, always
  • Blot stains immediately with a dry cloth. Never rub, never use water
  • Store wrapped in muslin, never plastic — plastic blackens zari
  • Refold along different lines every few months so creases don't set
  • Iron on low, reverse side, with a cotton cloth in between
Tissue / Organza
  • Dry clean only
  • The zari is delicate — avoid hooks, velcro and rough jewellery
  • Store rolled or loosely folded in muslin
  • Iron on the lowest setting with a cloth between, never directly on zari
Hand Block Prints — Ajrakh, Kalamkari, Bagru & Dabu
  • Natural dyes release colour in the first two or three washes. Wash separately in cold water
  • Mild detergent, no soaking, no bleach
  • Shade dry, reverse side out
  • The colours soften and deepen over years. That's how natural dye is meant to age
Hand Embroidered / Hand Painted
  • Dry clean only
  • Iron on the reverse, never over the embroidery or painted areas
  • Store flat in muslin so threads don't catch
