Regal, lustrous and beautifully light, this Purple Manipuri Kota silk brocade saree has a deep royal purple body woven with gold zari leaf butis, a fine gold zari border and a rich brocade pallu. The silk has a soft sheen that catches the light as you move, while the light Kota weave keeps the saree easy to drape and comfortable for hours. Royal purple and gold is a timeless festive pairing, made for women who love classic elegance with a touch of grandeur.

What makes a Kota silk brocade saree special?

Kota sarees take their name from Kota in Rajasthan, known for its fine, airy weave. In this saree the light Kota silk base is woven with gold zari brocade, so you get the richness of a festive silk with a lighter, more comfortable drape than a heavy brocade.

Where to wear this purple silk saree

Wear it for Diwali, Dhanteras, Navratri and Durga Puja, weddings, receptions, engagements and sangeet, temple visits, pooja at home, griha pravesh and family celebrations. It is also a graceful choice for formal evenings and award functions, and makes a meaningful festive gift for a mother, sister or daughter.

How to style it

Festive and traditional: pair it with a gold zari blouse or a purple brocade blouse, antique gold temple jewellery, a long haar, bangles and a gajra.
Soft and elegant: choose a lilac or silver-grey blouse with layered pearls and pearl drops for a refined evening look.
Boho: wear a mustard or teal sleeveless blouse with oxidised silver jhumkas, a macramé potli bag and kolhapuris for a modern festive twist.

Each piece is a work of art which uniquely displays the weaver's craftsmanship. No two handwoven pieces look exactly alike, and minute flaws such as an uneven yarn are a natural part of the weave.

Pls note that there may be a mild colour variation in the saree due to colour reproduction in camera and screen.

Frequently asked questions

What is this saree made of? This Purple saree is made of Manipuri Kota silk, with woven gold zari brocade butis across the body, a gold zari border and a brocade pallu. The blouse is attached, and the total length is 6.3 to 6.5m (5.5m saree and 80cm blouse).

What is a brocade saree? A brocade saree has motifs woven into the fabric with extra threads, here in gold zari, so the design is part of the weave rather than printed or embroidered on top.

Is a Kota silk brocade saree heavy? No. The Kota silk base is light and airy, so this saree drapes easily and is comfortable for long functions despite its rich zari work.

Which occasions is this purple and gold saree best for? It suits Diwali, Dhanteras, Navratri, Durga Puja, weddings, receptions, engagements, sangeet, temple visits, pooja at home and griha pravesh.

Can I wear it as a wedding guest? Yes. The royal purple and gold brocade looks rich and dressy, making it an elegant choice for weddings, receptions and evening celebrations.

How can I style a purple silk saree? For a traditional look, wear a gold zari or purple brocade blouse with antique temple jewellery. For an elegant look, choose a lilac or silver-grey blouse with layered pearls. For a boho look, try a mustard or teal blouse with oxidised silver jhumkas and a macramé potli.

Is it a good saree to gift? Yes. Purple and gold silk is a classic festive gift that feels special for a mother, sister, daughter or a dear friend.

Is the blouse piece included? Yes, an 80cm blouse piece is attached to the saree.

How do I care for this silk zari saree? Dry clean only, including the first wash. Iron on low heat on the reverse side with a thin cotton cloth over the zari. Keep perfume and deodorant away from the zari, and store it folded in a muslin or cotton cloth, refolding it every few months so the folds don't set.

Care Instructions

Handloom sarees last decades when cared for gently. Few simple care tips for different fabrics.
Pure Linen / Linen Cotton
  • Dry clean the first time; mild hand wash in cold water after that
  • Never wring — press water out and hang over a rod
  • Dry in shade, never direct sun
  • Iron while slightly damp; linen takes a hot iron well
  • Linen creases as you wear it. That's the fabric, not a fault
Cotton / Mulcotton
  • Before the first wash, soak 15 minutes in cold water with a handful of rock salt. This sets the colour
  • Mild detergent only, cold water, no bleach, no machine
  • Don't let soap sit on the fabric — rinse quickly
  • Shade dry; light starch keeps the crispness
  • Medium iron
Silk / Silk Cotton
  • Dry clean only, always
  • Blot stains immediately with a dry cloth. Never rub, never use water
  • Store wrapped in muslin, never plastic — plastic blackens zari
  • Refold along different lines every few months so creases don't set
  • Iron on low, reverse side, with a cotton cloth in between
Tissue / Organza
  • Dry clean only
  • The zari is delicate — avoid hooks, velcro and rough jewellery
  • Store rolled or loosely folded in muslin
  • Iron on the lowest setting with a cloth between, never directly on zari
Hand Block Prints — Ajrakh, Kalamkari, Bagru & Dabu
  • Natural dyes release colour in the first two or three washes. Wash separately in cold water
  • Mild detergent, no soaking, no bleach
  • Shade dry, reverse side out
  • The colours soften and deepen over years. That's how natural dye is meant to age
Hand Embroidered / Hand Painted
  • Dry clean only
  • Iron on the reverse, never over the embroidery or painted areas
  • Store flat in muslin so threads don't catch
